Gerald and Tom Hargreaves are well known in beef breeding circles for their heavy use of American angus genetics. They have strived to improve growth rates and carcase characteristics while retaining the historical soundness of the Angus breed. Gerald in particular has been outspoken in his frustration with the NZ beef industry.
This family business is an increasingly diversified operation, which is changing to reflect market conditions, succession planning requirements, environmental issues and the different temperaments of family members.
You are welcome to stay after the event for a drink.
Amy Hoogenboom – Zoetis Genetics. Amy will speak on the Angus benchmarking programme, validation of genomic predictions, and commercial results.
Phil Orme – Orme and Associates. A well known forestry consultant, Phil will discuss woodlot management, integrating farm forestry and the ETS.
